Flashpoint

Smile, commissioners. You're making asses of yourselves on candid camera!

Ken HaganOne of the supposed benefits of introducing cameras to our chambers of government was to add another layer of civility. Wouldn't you think people would be on their  best behavior knowing they were on live television and the archived video would exist in perpetuity? Apparently not.  Like the Vegas transvestites in the back seat of  Taxicab Confessions, our Hillsborough County commissioners seem oblivious to the lens and  free to be utterly themselves. And what a spectacle it is.

This Sunday morning on Flashpoint we show you some of the more jaw dropping outbursts from the dais featuring Brian Blair, Al Higginbotham, Rose Ferlita and Ken Hagan.  Flashpoint regular, Wayne Garcia of The Political Whore and U.T. professor, Dr. Scott Paine give us color commentary and explain how this dysfunction shortchanges the taxpayers of Florida's 4th largest county.  Check it out Sunday Morning at 11:00 on ABC Action News or go to the Flashpoint page ABCActionnews.com  and watch  after Sunday morning at your leisure.

We have resorted to taping meetings we attend in order to catch the real show that folks out in t.v. land don't see.  We're working on our video....
"Commissioners Gone Wild".    If you are sickened by what you see via HTV and you want to really see your government at work, join us downtown!  It doesn't matter the meeting...you'll get a good show; some more pathetic than others.  If it doesn't make you want to make changes....nothing will.      We must keep the pressure on by letting the "Gang of Four plus One" know WE ARE WATCHING and we're taking notes!   Thanks for exposing them for what they are.

We are watching after that last fiasco at the EPC.   One must stay tuned and start marking that "report card" because 3 of the "gang of four plus one" are up for reelection in 2008!  The winds of change are blowing strongly!

Terry is right.  Nothing will make you feel the need to get involved in politics more than seeing the BOCC in action.  If the commissioners didn't have such a big impact on our lives, it would be a great show, if only for its comedic value.

Yep.  We're watching. No, they lie right straight to you.  You are expected to give YOUR real name when you address the laughable BOCC but they are allowed to make up any old thing they want to tell you in return. They even send letters from the county attorney to back up what they say.  But, that is just paper.

These guys need to GO.  Recall them !!!! RECALL THEM. Why wait til 2008??? I smell a blog post. I guess this will mean MORE stuff stolen from my car.  So far since I brought up the recall I'm down two sets of keys, a cellphone, a briefcase and lately a laptop power source.  THIEVES !!!!

I went to both of the latest EPC meetings and could hardly believe what I was hearing.  These guys really expect the public to treat them with respect?  The way they treat people during the public comment portion of the meeting is appalling, not to mention all of the other things they've pulled or tried to pull.   Someone wrote in a recent article that the citizens of this county had been dormant far too long and that recent events had woken up a "sleeping bear" .  It's about time.  This is our county and it's being run by a handful of people who really don't have our best interests at heart.  Let's support our grass roots candidates next time around.  Take time to look up who contributes to the campaigns.  That speaks volumes.  Don't decide your vote based on the slick TV ads and the beautiful color pamphlets you receive at home with pictures of the family praying over dinner.  These are just images.  Look deeper.  Your vote is important.  Make it count.
