Flashpoint

Christian/Muslim Flashpoint stirs it up

Sunday's Flashpoint show featuring televangelist, Bill Keller and Muslim community activist, Ahmed Bedier generated the most response of any show thus far. Comments fell into four broad categories:

Bill Keller Bad

"Spreading hate and intolerance through the church is the opposite of Jesus' teachings.  I do not believe that Keller is a true Christian.  I think that he is an extremist bigot; a wolf in sheep's clothing.  God must be weeping over what is being said and done in His name.
Ahmed Badier handled Keller's hate mongering better than I would have."

-Megan

Muslims Bad

"Why does your liberal news station continue to ignore the real threat here in america?Muslims attacked us on 9/11 and they will do it again if we don't stand up to them.with that being said "what happened to our rights as americans" to be proud of our country, and religion.God has been taken out of our schools. But yet muslims are allowed to pray and have feet soaks when they come through door. When did we get so weak? maybe its this P C culture we live in! and the fact is muslims aren't all bad just most of them!!!!!!! "

Brendan Bad

"You (Brendan) and the muslim did a good job of ganging up on Keller. You'd be a credit to the muslims. I've never watched his program, but I do know that Jesus of the Bible, the true and living word of GOD says, no one comes to the Father except through me. I wonder why america tries to censer GOD's word all the time. Probably because we don't want to hear the truth. The way it seems to me Bendan, You could use a good dose of the truth."

Brendan Good

"I watched the show and found the first segment with the evangelist and the Muslim representative a brave presentation for you to air.  I find it wonderful that two opposing views can be presented on the air in our community and our country.  It is ironic that such views cannot be expressed in those countries where Islam is the state religion.  My God loves all humankind and I haven't found anyone yet that is in a position to judge who goes where in an afterlife.  Thanks Brendan for insuring that Sunday mornings have a constant source of relevant, interesting and courageous programming."

-Chuck Hummer

I feed the need to emphasize that it is not a fact (Charles Frierson)   that CAIR is a terrorist organization. As you like to say, "look it up".

Secondly,  y'all need to get clear on this point. Telling someone to shut up, or telling a TV or Radio station to shut someone up is not depriving anyone of their 1st amendment rights even if it works. If the government doesn't get involved and you don't forcibly silence someone's speech, the constitution doesn't come into play.  The Council on American Islamic Relations asked WTOG to take Bill Keller off the air and they did.  Several viewers criticized Bedier for complaining and criticized this station for airing the debate. Incredibly none of them criticized WTOG Television for cancelling Bill Keller’s show!   Riddle me that.

Mr. Keller Sort of reminds me of the times when the slaves were dragged or should I say (Blessed to get a day off) to church and listened from the balcony or attic as the Rev. Keller "read" the scriptures:  "It says here, the Good Lord don't like you n**** stealing the master's chickens.  Be good slaves and pick that cotton and you'll surely go to Heaven!"

First: I think Brendan Mclaughain should be fired. Now the reason He should be fired.  As a host of Flashpoint, he sided with the Muslim representative. A host sould never side with any guest. It was very clear to me that Brendan sided with the muslim guest. Every Christian viewer should boycott abc and channel 28. I am a born again Christian through Jesus Christ; God's Son. Our nation was founded on the belief of Christianity. That is why God has blessed our nation. When we leave our God; He will leave our nation.   Our nation is not a Muslim nation and should always seek the true living God that it was founded on. The Muslim god is not our nations god.

The fact that Christians allow people like crazy Keller to run around and disgrace Christianity is beyond me. It is downright scary that we consider ourselves to be a civilized and educated nation, one that we like to believe is progressing and yet we are digressing. Muslims were not the only ones to call to have Keller’s show taken off air. Ridiculing and demeaning another religion does not make anyone a better Christian. All those preachers out here now preaching Islamic phobia propaganda to riley up their congregation are horrendous and not following the word. Its easy to find flaws in others when we don’t want to look at ourselves. Last time I checked Muslims weren’t responsible for all the Americans that are poor, uninsured, starving, jobless, homeless, and suffering.

DUDE? What have you been smokin? I watched the whole interview and to be honest with you Brendan was very neutral. Most reporters or hosts try to get to truth of the matter, and it may appear to people that they may be siding with others. Maybe your the one that needs to be a little more open minded. But since you are the spokesperson for the Christian population I guess I am not worthy in your eyes of offering your salvation. So your position on God only accepts people who accept him means to me that God hates anyone else of another religion.
I hope you can face the Judgement thrown when its your time and you can honestly tell him how many people reached out too. Because where I am standing you and Mr. Keller have turned me off to salvation because of your right wing bible thumping bigotry and hatred. You have proven to me that God is not love.

DUDE!!! What are you smokin!!! Your assumption that since the 9/11 terrorists attacked us does not mean that every Muslim is a terrorist. Please explain to me how you can make this assumption when we have had Christian terrorists like Jim Jones, and David Corrish. Maybe our country should assume that even Christians can be terrorists.

A more accurate statement might be that Mr Keller wishes the end of all things not Fundamentalist Christian.  He uses language with which one might describe child rapists in discussing several Non-Fundamentalist Christian faiths.

I wonder if anyone has EVER felt the witness of the Holy Spirit, listening to him preach?

I'm sure folks feel something.  It might even be addictive, the same way violence can be addictive.
