It's hard out there for a Republican

By Brendan McLaughlin

Within days of requesting $190 billion dollars to fund the Iraq war, President Bush has promised to veto an expansion of children's health insurance.  President Bush neither loves war nor hates children, but he's sure delivering a gift to Democrats who suspect  he does.  George Bush's opposition to a $35 billion dollar bump in children's health insurance contrasts oddly with his support for a massive prescription drug program for seniors. If the voting age were 7, might he champion both programs?  His position also runs counter to popular opinion and will prove to be a pebble in the shoe of Republican Presidential candidates who will have justify their support of the George Bush on this issue or defend a program many conservatives consider to be a stalking horse for socialized medicine.

Brendan you have every right to your opinion but the SCHIP Program the democrats passed goes way beyond the parameters of the program. IT will allow families that make up to 83,000 dollars to join this program. Currently the program has over 750,000 adults on the program with over 100,000 that don't have children. This is a way for democrats to buy votes and create more socialized health care. Please don't worry about us republicans we will do just fine. You should worry about the democratic Congress that has the worst  approval rating ever. P.S what political party do you belong to?????

True Republican, I don't dispute that the SCHIP program may be over-reaching. Fair minded people will vote against it. My point is that appearances create a dilemma for Republicans in this instance. I'm not taking sides, just commenting on the horse race.
On the political party question, I'm not quite ready to make a declaration.  I admire my friend and frequent guest, Wayne Garcia for acknowledging his Republicanism.  There's much to be said for laying your cards on the table. In my case, I'm afraid viewers and readers would dismiss the possibility that I have sympathies that cross the aisle and that I can approach a given issue with an open mind.  I'm happy to have my observations and beliefs challenged, but I don't want to be prejudged.
