Flashpoint

A drill a minute

This Sunday morning on Flashpoint:  Republican State Senator, Mike Fasano and Sierra Club member Pat Kieslis join me for a rollicking discussion of the offshore drilling debate.  Check it out on ABC Action News Sunday morning at 11:00 and let me know how we did.

Fasano got the Republican line of 'lets make the oil companies richer' perfect. But their argument is worthless to anyone willing to look a little deeper then their nonsense.
75% of current oil leased land that has oil 'is not' being drilled !
The argument of Republicans that oil companies need more leases is a lie when you look honestly at the evidence!
The oil companies are not using the leases that contain oil they currently have!
Again, the Republican arguments are lies !
Why is McCain, Bush, Christ, and Fasano lying!! That is the question that needs to be asked ! And wasn't!
Bush lied about why we went to war, about spying on all Americans, is it any surprize their lying now?!
How far is the Republican party willing to go in bankrupting our country? The Iraq war costs 3 billion dollars a week that we haven't begun paying! McCain says we need to stay, and we're currently building a 100 acre Embassy in Iraq! This war can only continue with a draft. Are Florida citizens willing to send their teenagers to Iraq? With our growing debt, McCain wants to lower taxes! What sane person can possibly think you lower income to pay more bills?!
We can see how short sighted Republicans like Jeb and Christ have ruined the economy of Florida.
Can anyone say honestly they are better off today then before GW Bush, Jeb Bush, and Christ? So why believe their lies today!

I am a native Floridian, but lived in Los Angeles for 35 years.  I have always loved  beaches and lived on a Florida beach for 16 years.  I swam at Malibu, Zuma and Paradise Cove frequently, and frequently dodged tar on the beaches there.  It would get on our feet, towels and whatever we had there including our car's interior.  Then came the clean up, which was difficult.  Tar does not come off easily.  When this would happen, we would stay away for a week or so waiting for it to go away.  California's lower coast is dotted with oil wells, most of which cannot be seen from the beach.
We must not let the politicians permit drilling on Florida's beautiful Gulf beaches.

I saw this show, pretty sure i saw strings above Republican Mike Fasano.  Talk about a puppet trying to get populist votes.  As for Pat Kieslis for the Sierra Club, was she a deer caught in the headlights?  The only one making any sense was the host Brendan McLaughlin.  Two of his points that stand out are, paraphrasing here... "We can't drill our way out of gas prices" and "it's not a supply and demand problem".

It amazes me how many people think burning more oil is the solution.  Yes I agree oil platforms can be made extremely safe, but that's not the point.  Oil is a monopoly, and it's the biggest threat to our environment.  Come on people, where do you think all those millions of barrels of oil go?

You want lower energy costs?  Then create competition from other sources of energy.  Cleaner, reusable energy.  There is no future in what we are currently doing.   The public is ready to jump this oil barge.   It's gonna be painful yes, but it'll only get worse if we keep ignoring the black elephant in the room.

Flashpoint's a good show, really enjoy your choice of local topics and Brendan McLaughlin's journalism.   Keep up the good work!
