Flashpoint

Buddy Johnson faces the music on Flashpoint

In trying to convince embattled supervisor of elections, Buddy Johnson to sit down for an interview, I offered this:

-A chance to talk about whatever he wants in addition to answering the unpleasant questions about  his alleged lapses in judgement.

-A promise that I would not edit his comments in any way.

St. Petersburg Times

Pretty fair deal, I thought, but  Johnson still had reservations about consenting to an interview.    After all, St. Petersburg Times reporter, Jeff Testerman has spilled a barrel of ink writing about the Hillsborough election chief's professional and financial missteps, none of which can be easily explained in a few sentences.  Johnson also must have calculated that  most citizens never read the Times and would  therefore be completely unaware of the mini-scandals until hearing them discussed on television.   My counter-argument was that most Flashpoint viewers do read the newspaper and have read the editorials that question Johnson's competence and trustworthiness.  This is a rare chance to present his side of the story unedited and uncut.

You can see the result on Flashpoint this Sunday Morning at 11:00 on ABC Action News. Or you view the interview segments  here and let me know what you think.

Ole' Buddy actually came off looking pretty good.  The many allegations didn't really seem to add up to much.  Not paying taxes on time, cows on 20 acres getting a tax break, etc., didn't make much of an impact on me personally.

The thing I noticed was that limp wet noodle of a hand (finger) shake.  I hate when people do that.  It's effeminate and seemed deliberate.  He barely extended his elbow.  This tells me a lot about a person.  I've had people do it to me and it leaves a very bad impression.  It's a greeting, your showing respect or disrespect in that first impression.  It's like bowing in Asian cultures, the deeper and longer the more respectful, Buddy's would have been like a brief nod.  Or the Nazi salute, you know the one where Adolf almost seems perturbed he has to raise his hand.  Is it me or did that Hitler gesture seem gay?  Kinda like the John Wayne saunter portrayed by Robin Williams in the Bird Cage.  I think you get the inference.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I didn't know he was half of Buddy Freddies restaurant chain.  A co-worker of mine always wanted to do breakfast there.  I never liked the joint for some reason.  It was a breakfast buffett, everything tasted poor.  It was like mess tent food, that bulk stuff coming off those Sysco trucks.  The clientele always looked like they were planning the next abortion clinic bombing.  People openly praying.  Very surreal for a public restaurant.   The only thing missing was banjo music.

good for you buddy! Jeff Testerman for years has not been fair whatsoever! he does not tell the public of the good side of things, he paint half of a picture and the rest is up to you to finish. Most of what he writes, when you read it twice or even three times you leave scratching your head. thinking what did this person really do. Hes a liar and manipulates the truth at times. Its a wonder that the  SP Times does has not  spent more money on defending them selfs in law battles then they have made selling papers, you know why? i will tell you beacuse anyone that would have the time to go adgainst them would first be questioned   One of day he will push the wrong person over the edge. That day i dont think i will shed one tear.
