Flashpoint

The Blair-ing reaction

Thanks to all of you who watched the Brian Blair interview last Sunday and posted your comments. Wayne Garcia's blog, Political Whore had a lively discussion over Blair's appearance with his Democratic Challenger, Kevin Beckner and Sue Carlton of the St. Petersburg Times made a mention as well.

My only regret was not jumping on Blair's flip assertion that he and Michael Jackson were the only two white guys in his home town of Gary, Indiana.  At the time, I wasn't sure I heard him right and didn't want to get sidetracked in the short time we had left.  If you missed the show, it's posted here.

I'm on a "staycation" this week so I'll re-run Sunday's Flashpoint this week. The highlight so far was hosting Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay 2008 awards night at the Tampa Theater on Tuesday. It was, without doubt the most enjoyable event I've attended since the 2007 Awards Night.  See what you missed and make sure you're there next year.

The idea that Blair thought this kind of flippant remark was all right ... much less, funny, is the problem.  Where is the respect for people that he claims he holds?  What will it take for the voters to realize he isn't right for Hillsborough County?  I'm even insulted, as a Christian, that he claims to be such a champion for my faith.  I'll take a little less of that representation as well.

Kevin Beckner is honorable, respectful and intelligent.  He will make Hillsborough County proud!  I will thoroughly enjoy seeing him sit on our County Commission!

Blair is an embarrassment.  If the citizens of Hillsborough care at all about our county, they will vote for Kevin Beckner in November.

Brian Blair is a joke. Is his only appeal the fact that he used to be a pro wrestler? Yeah, ask people in Minnesota how THAT worked out the last time they elected a pro wrestler to political office! I have relatives in Minnesota who were none too happy to sit through that govenership, and we shouldn't either. (Well, I know Brian Blair is a county commissioner but that's beside the point.)

Bian Blair needs to go back to his bumblebee tights and allow other "actors" beat up on him!

This guy was elected to represent ALL people of Hillsborough County.  We now know what he thinks of us.  Disgusting display.

Maybe we need to encourage the County Commission to vote on a "Day of Silence for Bigots" in honor of BumbleBeeBlair's bigotry.

Take a moment Hillsborough county and ask yourself. do you want a bigot, ex pro wrestler who uses county money to clean up his private lake, while trying to ruin the wet lands everywhere else, uses his office as a payback for political favors (be it a contributor who Blair helped change laws to let him put a helicopter landing pad at his house, or renames a civic award to honor one of his largest contributor Ralph Hughes), and is a sue happy creep?  If you really want this then vote for Blair and live with the results . . . oh that’s right we already are living with your mistake.  Be a part of the "Ownership Society" Own this mistake and correct it with Beckner.

Brendan,

In your post you mentioned "My only regret was not jumping on Blair's flip assertion that he and Michael Jackson were the only two white guys in his home town of Gary, Indiana."

You did the right thing, simply because there are times that it's best to let the viewers themselves consider what the fool said.  It's clear from the response that they did just that.

One other guest suggestion:  Doug Tudor, who is the Democratic candidate for the District 12 Congressional Seat currently held by Adam Putnam.  Mr. Tudor is from Riverview (There's the Hillsborough County connection!), and recently retired after 20+ years in the Navy, where he served as flagwriter (equiviliant to administrative assistant) to three CentCom commanders-in-chief.  I believe that if there is a chance to unseat Putnam, this is the opportunity.  It would be great to have a Sunday morning featuring Putnam and Tudor together talking about the issues.

Enjoy!
