This entire VP thing is driving me nuts. I don't want one of the suspected final three (Bayh, Kaine and Biden)... Or even some of the lauded other candidates. I don't want a Dan Quayle like pick, mind you, but I want a dark horse. "Didn't see that one coming!"

It's like this with everything under the microscope, to me, though. There truly are no surprises any more.

Reports keep saying Obama will make the "Safe" pick as his #2... And I worry about that. Then again? Al Gore was a "safe" pick, and dry as toast in 1992...

As I mentioned on the blog early this morning: It won't be Hillary --- I think we all have figured that out by now --- Tim Kaine is too much of an unknown outside of Virginia, and Bayh...I just don't see it. Sure, Obama is promoting change, but he still has to have someone who 1) can provide serious guidance in those areas where he is lacking, 2) will work with him instead of being a distraction (or having her spouse cut him off at the knees), and 3) who has a great deal of experience within the Beltway and is well known/respected without overshadowing the candidate.

Obama will play it safe, and choose Joe Biden. 36 years in the Senate, constitutional scholar (not to mention former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, a key element as the next President will likely have to nominate one or more Justices to the United States Supreme Court), and even now chairs the Foreign Relations Committee. With his experience in the Senate, he has the ability to possibly win over important votes and work with the other side.

We shall see.
