Barry Bonds' decision to not participate in the Home Run Derby really tells you how selfish Bonds is. If the game were being played in anyplace other than HIS home ballpark...I'd almost understand. But this is in San Francisco. His fans stepped up big time by voting him into the game. How does he thank them?? He refuses the invite to the Home Run Derby. Just about any other human being would thank the fans by taking an hour out of his day to essentially take extra batting practice. Not Bonds.
The players treat the Home Run Derby like a trip to the dentist. Where's A-Rod...Griffey...along with Bonds? Why can't baseball put $1-mill ..for a winner take all competition? That would make the All-Star break something to watch. I guarantee you, the top names in baseball would take their cuts. A million dollars ..is a million dollars. One mill buys a backup infielder. Baseball needs to make these kinds of decisions to truly market its own game.
