Hip, Hip, Jorge!!

Is it me, or does it seem strange that the Rays couldn't get rid of Jorge Cantu fast enough and they gave Elijah Dukes every extra look they could?  Remember, when Dukes was sent down and made inactive, he was hitting .190 with 3 times as many at bats.  Cantu was hitting .207.  Sure Dukes has a ton of potential...but Cantu hit 28 homers only 2 seasons ago. Maybe Cantu should have admitted he used marijuana.  Maybe Cantu should have cursed at any human being that crossed his path.  Seriously, Cantu has represented the Rays well.  I don't know why he's struggled in the last 2 seasons, but Dukes hasn't done anything to approach what Cantu HAS done in the majors.  Cantu deserves the same benefit.

It is possible that Cantu was using performance enhancing drugs in order to achieve his spectacular results a few years back. Since the MLB has tightened the reigns on those drugs a good number of players have had issues with their numbers.

Great question!!  But the first year of baseball's testing came in Cantu's big year.  I think Cantu is simply stuck in a tough spot.  He won't get a chance to hit until his numbers go up...and his numbers won't improve until he gets a chance to hit.  The minors may provide that opportunity.  Al

Valid point Al, but were they properly testing for HGH then?
