One week of training camp and it is obvious...the Buccaneers ..will go only as far as their offensive line can take them. That's what makes the early injury to Luke Petitgout so frustrating. If you think Jeff Garcia can stay upright for 16 games...then you believe the Bucs decision to cut Simeon Rice really didn't have anything to do with money. This offensive line will have to carry this team. It would be one thing if Chris Simms were the same healthy Chris Simms that led the Bucs to the NFC South title ..2 years ago. Now ..the Buccaneers are basically one play away from being in the same boat as they were last season. Garcia is what he is...a veteran that can make plays during the season. At 37, do you really believe he can make plays for an entire campaign? The last time he played in every regular season game was 2002. Here's the rub...the Bucs need Garcia to provide any kind of consistent life to the Bucs offense. A consistent Garcia, means a consistent offense, and that keeps the Bucs defense off the field. How big is that early on? Over the first 6 weeks, the Bucs will face the following quarterbacks...Matt Hasselbeck, Drew Brees, Marc Bulger, Jake Delhomme, Peyton Manning and Vince Young. Previous Bucs defenses could hold their own. This defense is desperate for help from the offense.
