It pains me greatly to say this, but the Bucs might as well release David Boston. Boston lied to the Bucs saying drug tests would reveal no illegal drugs in his system. GHB is illegal in the real world, but not recognized as taboo by the NFL.
According to the NFL, GHB ( commonly called date-rape drug) is not on the list of banned substances. Therefore, he did not cross the line in that respect. However, he did violate the league's "personal conduct" policy, which will likely result in some kind of fine and/or suspension. GHB is an illegal central nervous system depressant.
My guess is, and this is only a guess, Boston used the drug to help combat and perhaps enhance his recovery time from aches, pains, and injury. He knew that this shot with the Bucs would likely be his last run, and he was desperate to succeed. I was pulling for him. Now, I worry more about David Boston than I do about him playing another down for the Bucs. Drugs have surfaced in his life before.
Frankly, I don't believe Boston hurt his ankle or foot before the Seattle game. I think the Bucs got wind of this information, and scratched him from the lineup. The team went out on a limb and backed him. Now this. David, get yourself right! You got caught, and now are a distraction and liability to the team.
Perhaps the Bucs will try and find a way to keep him around, and help him through whatever he's going through. But I come from the "tough love" era. Boston had his shot, fair and square. Now it's time to part company.
