For the first time since the early 90's, the Buccaneers have become a non-factor in the NFL. The season-opening loss at Seattle sums up what this team has become.
Boring.
No spark.
No nothing.
For a second straight year, the Bucs offense cannot find the end zone in the season opener. It appears the Buccaneer defense -- the lifeblood of this franchise -- is only a memory. And special teams...if the Buccaneers had trouble keeping up with Nate Burleson, can you imagine what will happen chasing Reggie Bush?!!!
And this wasn't the Bill Walsh 49'ers. This was a Seahawks team that had to overhaul its defense. Even the Seahawks had no idea what to expect. Remember when the Bucs would take on the NFL's best and put on a show?
Now, they face an early favorite to win the NFC South without a healthy Cadillac and a key defensive star in Brian Kelly. Anything that can go wrong, has gone wrong with this team since the day the Buccaneers reported to Disney. Some say ..what goes around, comes around. Did the way they cut Simeon Rice open the door for some really bad karma?
The critics claimed 37-year-old Jeff Garcia wouldn't last the season. After the opener, he may not last the month? He made it 2 1/2 quarters before getting knocked silly.
Sunday's home opener will speak volumes. Other NFL teams can overcome injuries, player distractions and what is becoming apathy. Other NFL teams "will" their way to victories. The Bucs have done it in the past. Can these Bucs answer?
