Yes, the Buccaneers finally found the end zone.
Yes, Jeff Garcia hit some big passes.
Yes, the defense delivered some big hits at big times.
Yes, the Buccaneers not only beat, but pounded the defending NFC South champ and a team that was one victory away from last season's Super Bowl.
And YES, the Bucs finally won a game that few thought they would. What really impressed me about beating the Saints, the Bucs finally played with passion. We haven't seen that kind of victory since the 2005 season. While beating the Saints is not exactly a "signature" win that can define a season, it is the type of win that shows what they can do when they put it all together.
Why yesterday? Who knows? The Bucs didn't show any signs of being able to do that against Seattle or in preseason. Did they bring it because they knew their coach was on the hotseat? Did they do it because they know this is a make or break season for their jobs as well? Who knows and who cares? It was great to see the Bucs take a lead and refuse to let the Saints back up.
Let's not forget that this division and this conference is up for grabs. The Saints are 0-2. We know about the Falcons' problems. That makes these next two games at home critical. Wins over the Rams and Panthers and the Bucs stand at 3-1 atop the NFC South. 9-7 may be good enough to win the division. And when you look at the rest of the NFC is there anybody that really scares you? Dallas?? If the Saints can put together the run they did last year, there's nothing that says the Bucs team we saw yesterday can't do the samething.
