When you buy a Cadillac, you expect the best.
Cadillac is a symbol of quality. Built to last.
Once you go Cadillac, you never go back.
But, are the Buccaneers beginning to feel "buyers remorse" in purchasing their Cadillac?
Jon Gruden makes it clear, Cadillac gives the Buccaneers a big play threat that few teams have at running back. But Cadillac continues to be careless with the football. The fumble against the Rams could have set the table for disaster...just like it did in the season-opener at Seattle. That's 9 fumbles in 3 seasons. The Bucs have lost 8 of those. And one of those fumbles came in a playoff game.
That's not what you expect when you buy a Cadillac.
Thank God, Gruden had enough. Even though Cadillac had run well against the Rams, Williams was sent to the bench after fumbling in the 4th quarter. And thank God, Gruden had an answer by turning to Earnest Graham. The former Gator responded big time with 75 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Is Graham going to supplant Cadillac as the Bucs' biggest weapon in the backfield. No. But he gives Gruden an option. Graham had a 28-yard touchdown run to put the wraps on the 24-3 win over St. Louis. Cadillac's longest run this season is 20 yards.
In fact, Cadillac has had seven 100-yard rushing games. Only one has come since his rookie season. Granted, Cadillac has battled injuries and opposing teams stack their defenses to stop Cadillac. Still, have we seen the best of this Cadillac? There has to be more tread on those tires. And he can't be approaching the end of his warranty.
Remember the Buccaneers drafted Cadillac with the 5th pick in 2005. Among the players the Bucs could have taken, Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman. He is easily one of the most dominant stars in the NFL. And he's getting better year after year.
I'm a huge Cadillac fan. But stop the turnovers. I've heard enough questions regarding Cadillac's health. It is time for this Cadillac to put pedal to medal.
