Poor FSU. A red-faced adminstration turned in by their own student-athletes! Unsupervised online testing resulting in an academic scandal involving 23 Florida State student-athletes. In addition, two former university employees provided answers to online tests and typed papers for some student-athletes.
Why should we be surprised. I'm not. We're not singling out FSU here. This practice is going on all across America's institutions, except for those that don't put such a great emphasis on sports revenue.
Cheating has been going on for decades! I personally remember a student-athlete never going to a class we took together, and he graduated!
Furthermore, I would be willing to go out on a limb here and say that certain people within the FSU athletic adminstration knew of this well before the whistleblowers blew it open. I can only believe that the two former employees that gave athletes answers to unmonitored online tests and typed papers were doing this in a clandestine fashion under the direction of someone in the athletic adminstration.
Online classes and online testing is a joke! It is a perfect avenue for the lame student to "get by". I commend the FSU student-athletes that brought this to the adminstrations's attention.
How severe the penaltiies will be from the NCAA, I can't say. But I will say this. FSU's athletic adminstration better get on the ball. If I was a higher-up in the school's adminstration, HEAD'S WOULD ROLL!
