TK's Bucs Monday Bulletin: Jones out for season, Clayton could be next

Just finishing listening to Jon Gruden's news conference.  As we feared, the teams wide receiver depth has been slammed again.  Mark Jones is out for the season with a tendon tear. Michael Clayton's status is on hold, but that doesn't look good either.  He'll be out for several weeks at best.

The team will try out a couple of wide receivers this week and get at least one in by Wednesday.

I was pleased to hear Gruden say that Michael Bennett is a candidate for returning kickoffs.  YES!!!  I was asking for that in my earlier blog (I'm PO'ed: Hope the Bucs are to).

If Bennett can return punts, put that speedster back there baby!  Expect Bennett to have an increased role vs. Jacksonville next Sunday.  That news alone should be a pick-me-up for this team that has to be beating their head against the wall after losing the way they did to Detroit.

As for the defense's collapse on Detroit's 90-plus yard drive following the Garcia fumble at the Lions one yard line; Gruden said he tips his cap to the Lions.  I'll bet you mortgages he was not saying that to the defense in private.  As I said on Sportszone Sunday night, that was the most pathetic defensive series I've seen from this team in a decade.  No one, and I mean no one, stepped up to make a play.

Enough said.  We'll be chatting again on Wednesday when I have a chance to talk with the players.
