Spent a great deal of time listening today to quite a few Bucs players. Here's what stood out.
QB Jeff Garcia- likes what WR Chad Lucas brings to the table: speed. He is not going to worry about losing Clayton. He is just going to put his trust in Maurice Stovall and Chad Lucas to get it done. Also said the Jacksonville defense doesn't need to blitz to get to him. They have one of the best front seven in the NFL, and can basically man you up. The Bucs offensive line will have their hands full, needless to say.
Garcia on QB Quinn Gray likely making his first start for Jaguars: Garcia thinks the week of prep will help Gray. But let's face it. The kids making his first start, on the road, against a pretty good defense. Expect Jaguars to give the Bucs a big dose of Taylor and Jones-Drew from the backfield. They will pound the Bucs front all afternoon long. This is one of those games the Bucs will have to stop the run first, because it might be the only thing Jacksonville throws at them.
Ike Hilliard: He reiterated what he said in training camp: The collection of talent at WR is as good as he's ever been around, and now Stovall and Lucas get their chance.
Michael Bennett told me that he did return kickoffs in college. In the NFL at KC, he was the protect guy on kickoffs. Bennett had no idea no kickoff has ever been returned for TD by the Bucs. He was stunned, knowing that the dubious streak is older than he is by a year.
Bennett did say he would like to be the first Buc to do it. Now we wait and see if he indeed is the guy back there Sunday.
