Are you kidding me! 93% say Jon Gruden doesn't deserve a contract extension.

I am rarely speechless, but I was dumbfounded to see the final results of our webpoll that asked:  Does Jon Gruden deserve a contract extension?  93% of those voting said no!  First of all, he does deserve a contract extension.  More importantly, in the NFL world, Gruden either gets one now or he's out the door.  Head Coaches do not go into a season lameducks.  Not a good practice for any franchise.  If you don't have faith in the guy, you can him.  You don't dangle a "do it or adios" scenerio out there.  You can kiss free-agency goodbye.  Any player with any brains and talent wouldn't even consider the Bucs if that were to be the case.  So in essence, 93% of you would make lousy NFL owners.  Remember, it's not like the real world where you can get away with that practice.  This is the NFL, which is a world unto its own.

Here's what's going to happen.  Gruden will get an extension, probably two years.  He deserves at least a year.  The Glazers will hold him to a higher expectation next season. And that goes for GM Bruce Allen.  They better do a bang-up job in free agency or via trade to bring some playmakers in on offense.  A wide receiver (superstar or close to) is a must!  Joey Galloway has put up very good numbers, but he will be far more affective with someone on the other side that will command attention.  Does this team  even have a Wes Welker?  No.  Randy Moss is darn glad NE does.  O-line could use depth, and God bless Earnest Graham, but they Bucs need a home-run hitter at that position.  I'm not banking on Caddy.

You may agree with me, you might not.  93% of you that voted think I'm nuts.  So let's hear from you!

Two years from now and two more years of suffering you will probably be saying "Why didn't they can Gruden when they had the chance? Give me a break!

I agree with Tom Korun, especially when he said that "93% of
you would make lousy NFL owners".  All of you nay-sayers
don't have a clue what the NFL is all about.  Coach Gruden
deserves a contract extension and the chance to rebuild the
team and again take them to the Super Bowl.  When he does,
you'll all be back on his bandwagon.  Devoted fans only during
the good times - fair-weather fans, who needs them?

He deserves a bus ticket. He has a nasty attitude and is an egomaniac with a bad mouth. He doesn't know how to motivate and has no class.  So nice to have his smirking vulgar mouth representing our community.

Chucky has 5 division titles and a Super Bowl WIN in 10 seasons as a head coach.

since his last super bowl win in 1990, Bill Parcells has three division titles and 1 Super Bowl LOSS. That is in 11 seasons as a head coach.

FIVE DIVISION TITLES IN 10 YEARS! how many coaches can say that?

Give Gruden a 1 year extension. We desperately need wide receivers, Galloway is afraid of getting hit & short-arms too many passes. He doesn't like to across the middle either. We also need a kicker who can put kickofffs into the end zone. Brian Kelly needs to go away - he sucks. I would also look for a couple more linebackers, but wide receiver is a must!!!

The Glazers should judge Gruden's competence as a coach by the same standards they used to judge Dungy's competence.  If they use this measure, I'm sure they will decide it's time for Gruden to move on.  In fact, if they used this measure last year, Gruden wouldn't even still be here and we would not be having this discussion.

Tom, if you see the the Glazers, just give them my suggestion:  Judge Gruden using the same scale you used to judge Dungy. That should help a great deal.

How can you say Gruden deserves another chance. He never developed one player himself. He has not  developed a quaterback and has no trust of the players themselves. His offense for lack of a better word stinks.Look where he stands statistically every year on offense. He does not earn the respect of the players and with the exception of this year his choice of players has been poor.If it wasn,t for the defense bailiing his butt every year is record would be awful. What saved him a little this year was getting Garcia,an easy schedule and he blew a couple of games they should have won. When he left Oakland did you hear any of the players complain? How many other coaches would have won a supper bowl with the players he had in place? He has not developed players,or selected the best prospects, his own players don,t respect him,his offense ranks last near the bottom each year ,so what makes him a commodity in demand

An egonaniac , whos opinion of himself is greater than his ability. He won the super bowl with Dungys team. After he won he gutted the team. Just look at his player selections over the last few years. Why does it take a nfl coach 4 years to put an  ofline together. Not to mention a good pass rush. Caddy Williams should be selling them. The 93% speaks volumes.
