All's well in Indianapolis. After several days of deliberation, and support from his family, Tony Dungy is staying on as Head Coach of the Colts for at least one more season.
Dungy said he very comfortable with the decision. He felt that he could provide the time and passion needed to be a NFL Head Coach and father. Dungy also felt the pressure was off him when the Colts settled on his successor in Jim Caldwell to provide a seamless transition. How qualified Caldwell is to take over ,only time will tell. But it is a move the Colts made and will have to live with.
Was this decision a surprise? To me, yes. I think I underestimated what the NFL really meant to Tony. I believe in his news conference he referred to his Colts job as a ministry. It is also a vehicle to keep his public persona out there to adminstrate the off the field messages most important to him. In this case, it's not necessarily family first. It's more like a hand in hand marriage between his committment to the Colts and family. So life goes on as usual. Indy can rest knowing there's at least one more season. After that............(to be continued).
