Finally!! Rays Fans Are Getting It.

Now this is more like it.

The Rays have a sellout for Saturday night's victory over the White Sox.

And they follow that with nearly 25,000 for Sunday's matinee with Chicago.

Finally, Rays fans are acting like they want to see meaningful baseball.

The critics will say the Rays drew more than 36,000 Saturday night because of the Trace Adkins concert after the game.

   Who cares?

Rays fans still filled the seats.

Could it be that this weekend local baseball fans didn't care about gas prices...

Or where the location of the ballpark...

    Or the cost of tickets...

    Or parking...

    Or traffic...

Apparently, they cared about watching compelling baseball.

This is what Major League Baseball is all about.

Now this is more like it.

Couldn't agree more.  The people around here who are 1.) not attending the games and, 2.) putting up the "no new stadium" signs in the front yards are taking a very short-sighted view of the situation.  I am from Cleveland and I will tell you that 1.) if the Rays continue to win and fans don't show up and 2.) they don't get a new stadium, THEY WILL MOVE ELSEWHERE.  There are plenty of cities willing to throw money at a professional baseball franchise, even build a stadium.  It would be disastrous to St. Pete's and Tampa Bay's reputation and economy to lose a sports franchise.  I can just see the folks over in Orlando salivating.  Didn't anyone else notice the new Rays uniforms have a glaring omission?  Their "away" uniforms no longer say "Tampa Bay" like they used to, and like most teams uniforms do.  Nope - they just say "Rays".  All the more easy to switch cities.

Wake up Rays Fans!  Support your team!

For the past few years the Rays have been playing compelling ball. But it is hard to over come their history of failure. With time the fans will come and stay but until we have a proven product, I think attendance will be hit or miss. With our fan base most have moved in from other states and still support their home town teams. (Boston for me) The bigger crowds will be for visting teams of interest. I support the Rays against all but Boston and with the way they are playing I will support them at home agaisnt the Sox's. I also think the idea of a new ball park is a bad one. On a brighter note the Yankees are in last place!!
