Here's our best attempt at Point Counter Point.
And with apologies to 60 Minutes, here goes...
Tom...you ignorant jockstrap, how can the Buccaneers not leave every stone unturned to acquire one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history?
This not the case of Johnny Unitas or Joe Namath. They belched dust when they were traded.
This isn't even a Joe Montana leaving the Niners for Kansas City.
This is one of the NFL's top 5 quarterbacks joining a defending division champ that has a vastly improved offensive line.
This is a defending division champ that has a better run game than the Packers.
This is a defending division champ that has a defense that paired with an effective offense, can return to elite status.
And with the Super Bowl in their house this season, how can the Buccaneers NOT pull out all the stops to get Favre in Red and Pewter?
This has nothing to do with Jeff Garcia. This has everything to do with Favre.
Let's not forget Jon Gruden wanted to throw Garcia into a quarterback competition with Jake Plummer. Obviously, he'd roll the dice on Favre.
I know at 38, things can head south in a hurry.. But the Bucs are not asking him to carry this franchise. The Bucs simply want him to run the offense. Throw in his ability to make big plays and if Favre can be 75% of the quarterback he was last year, the Bucs may be the team to beat in the NFC.
I don't think it is a coincidence that the Buccaneers have held back cap room. Are you really surprised that the Bucs have been slow to extend Garcia's deal?
Jon Gruden has a ton of quarterbacks on his roster,
With Brett Favre he may finally have the right one.
((TK...sorry about the "ignorant jockstrap" remark, I've never considered you ignorant.))
