Sports Talk - Tampa Bay Sports Blog

Think I was wrong about Favre? You better read on

Back on July 11th, my blog entitled "Favre to Bucs?  Give me a break!" got plenty of attention.  Much appreciated.  Majority rule in the response department put me in the 'IDIOT" column. " Korun, you don't know what your talking about. " My colleague, Al Keck, did a point-counter-point and dubbed me an "ignorant jockstrap."

Fact is folks, your likely out of your league to challenge me. I suggest you go to the Green Bay Press Gazette website and read an article entitled: "Reggie White's widow: Favre story sounds familiar."

This will require a little effort on your part, which most of you do little of in responding to these blogs.  I will say this- she agrees with me.  WHY? Because her husband went through the same thing.  Very few of you know what it's like for these athletes who have little aptitude for anything but football.  It's a shame really, but it's reality.  Favre is one of them.  Oh, he may find a hidden talent down the line, but right now he's scared to leave the game.

I'm not diminishing what Favre has done in his career.  I'm just stating fact, and sometimes the facts aren't what you want to hear.

Now the real question?  Will the Bucs trade for Favre?  God help Allen and Gruden if they do.  Favre will be useless in the offense until the 8th week of the season, which maybe by then, he'll actually absorb some of it.  The move could cost them dearly at the end of the season.

On Jeff Garcia:  Would Jeff Garcia have asked for permission to attend his dad's football reunion over this weekend if he had an extension?  Heck no.  He's got to be hacked off, disrespected.  For Allen to have asked Chris Simms if Favre "would be able to fit into the offense with limited reps in the pre-season." is an ultimate slap in the face to Simms, Garcia, Griese and McCown.  Why the heck would Allen ask Simms that question?  How would Simms know, and why did Simms make that conversation public?  Not the kind of stuff you want coming out two days before your team reports to camp. My guess is you have a quarterback corp a little on edge right now, if not downright PO'ed.

This whole situation could make for one very interesting open to camp.  However, I think Favre will go to another team (Miami?), sell some tickets, and end up having the same disappointing comeback Reggie White had.

Tom,
I agree with you 100%.
Favre is OLD, beat up slow and he is always trying to force the ball in between defenders. The Bucs will spend big BUCS on him and he will get hurt immediately (if not sooner).

Tom, I agree with you completely.  I've been into sports for quite a few years now and really get upset with some of the stuff that goes on - but - we continue to watch and hope for a win -

Keep up with your thoughts and opinions.  You have been right on in so many areas - I'm still steaming about Jerramy Stevens..... A close relative from Seattle says that this will be Holmgren's last year... I'm thinking it'll probably be the same for Jon if he doesn't smarten up soon.

Sure hope the Rays can continue to hold on but if they don't learn to win in Boston and New York, I'm afraid we'll be disappointed.  It's been a great run so far, tho, and I am with them all the way.  Kudos to Joe Maddon.... Exciting time in Tampa Bay... Also can't wait for the hockey season to start...These golden years are getting to be the most exciting for me!!!!!

Hang in there  - Love ya - Louise
