Quite a day over at Wild World of Sports. With Jeff Garcia out west and not due to report until tomorrow night, guess who was the focal point of camp. Chris Simms. That's how disjointed things are right now with the pewter and red. Chris Simms looked so bad in camp today, I'd be surrprised to see him last the week. Come on, with Garcia coming in, that will make it five quarterbacks in camp. That's too many, even in Gruden's world.
I'm actually getting a little miffed when I ask a direct question and get the run-around.
In light of the rumors, I asked Gruden point-blank yesterday if the team had permission to talk to Brett Favre. He said "to his knowledge, they did not , and he should know since he was the head coach."
Today, I asked him again for an update to that same question, and he did a Fred Astaire move and danced around it.
That tells me either the answer was yes, they do, or he's just enjoying yanking our chains on this story that won't go away. I believe the Bucs haven't asked for permission to talk to Favre.
Tonight, the Newark Star-Ledger reports that any Jets/ Packers trade for Favre is "very doubtful." The article also goes on to say their source tells them that it was Favre's people and the Packers that leaked the fact the Jets had received permission to talk to Favre.
For the Bucs, I believe this type trade will be the mother of all mistakes. The price will be too high, and there is no middle ground on this move. It will either make Allen and Gruden geniuses, or it may cost them their job, unless, the Glazers are behind this. If that's the case, it's all about selling tickets and avoiding the potential local TV blackouts they may face this season.
If I were the Bucs I'd be looking for a quick #1 type receiver. They will need one.
Can't wait for day two of camp!
