If you read our Bucs/Saints Preview, we laid out the reasons why the Bucs would have a tough time in Sunday's season opener. We also predicted the Saints covering the spread, which they did.
If you saw Sunday's game, you see now how much more competitive NO is in 2008. Drew Brees may very well be the best quarterback in NFC. Sorry ,Tony Romo. Reggie Bush did surprise me. If the opener is a gauge, he has elevated his game bigtime.
We also predicted that Jeff Garcia would be rusty, and take at least to week three to be at his best. He was rusty today, and Joey Galloway was hardly the go-to-deep-threat we saw last year. He was covered well (man-to-man) which will change when Galloway gets his legs under him.
What I did not forecast was the Bucs ability, despite giving up over 400 yards offense and three touchdowns, still have a chance to win it at the end. I expected NO to win by 10, but the Bucs took it almost to double zero. That gives this team hope for next Sunday in their home opener against Atlanta. One problem there, Michael Turner. Did you see what that guy did against Detroit! He is a fantasy stud!
