Pure guts for the Buccaneers.
Pure satisfaction for Brian Griese.
The Bears didn't believe Griese was good enough to start over Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman.
But Griese was more than good enough to rally the Buccaneers from 10 down in the final quarter and carry this team to an overtime victory at Soldier Field.
27-24 Buccaneers in OT.
Griese passing for 407 yards and two touchdowns at Chicago...
Awkward.
Imagine sports radio in Chicago tonight and tomorrow. It won't be pretty.
We have seen the Bucs lose a game like this so many times over the years. To win a game like that at Chicago can do wonders for a team's confidence. Now the Buccaneers also need to understand they can't afford to let that happen to them in their building.
It would have been very easy for the Bucs to pack it in after falling behind by 10 in the final quarter. But the Buccaneers made key plays on third down to keep the game's biggest drives alive. And the Bucs defense settled down after giving up more than 400 yards and 18 unanswered points.
The Bucs go to 2-1. They are tied for the top spot in the NFC South. With New Orleans stumbling to 1-2, the Bucs need to keep the pressure on with Green Bay at Raymond James next Sunday.
