The Rays have their "Where...and When" ..
They are just waiting for "Who."
The Rays own their first AL East title. They will open the playoffs at home against either Chicago or Minnesota Thursday at Tropicana Field.
Chicago will play Detroit tomorrow in a makeup game. If the White Sox win, they then take on Minnesota Tuesday in a one-game showdown for the AL Central crown.
The Rays will tell you they don't care who they play.
There is something about the White Sox that worries me. If Chicago closes with 3 straight wins to take the last playoff spot, that makes them dangerous. Sure, they have to play 2 games this week. Sure if will effect their pitching staff. But whatever fatigue they would feel playing at the Trop Thursday, will be trumped by momentum.
Remember, round one is a best-of-five. Whoever is hot, wins the series and heads to the next round with the American League championship series. A quick start is essential.
The Rays were 6-4 against Chicago and 3-3 against Minnesota.
The Rays just split with the Twins earlier this month. I like the way the Rays matchup better against the Twins. The White Sox pitching worries me. Some of their lefties have been deadly against the Rays.
