The Rays equaled Game 2's 9 runs, with another 9 runs in game 3. This time around, the Rays starting pitcher, Matt Garza, made sure it was more than enough.
"The home runs were nice, but Garza is the reason we won tonight" said Rays manager Joe Maddon. Garza pitched into the 7th inning, and despite having a Red Sox runner reach a base in every inning he pitched, Garza managed to keep the Red Sox off the score board until the 7th inning.
BJ Upton continued his post season push launching a 3-run third inning home run. Super rookie Evan Longoria followed suite with a solo blast of his own. Both home runs came of Boston's Jon Lester, who many expected to dominate the Rays batters tonight....that wasn't the case.
A couple of Rays players with direct ties to the Boston area added the exclamation point in the 8th and 9th inning respectfully. Rocco Baldelli set a 3-run blast into the Boston night and enjoyed every trot around the Fenway Park basepads"to be able to do it front of my family and friends here was really nice." Northeastern University product, and former Red Sox farmhand Carlos Pena capped the nights scoring with a home run of his own in the 9-1 win.
Go Rays!!! They lead this best of seven series 2 games to 1.
