Just a few quick notes before Game 5 of the ALCS.
The Rays own a 3-1 in this playoff. They have won 3 straight games in this series, only twice before has a team won 3 straight in a playoff and not advanced to the World Series. The 2004 Yankees and the 2007 Cleveland Indians. The bad news for the Rays, both times those teams lost to the Red Sox.
The Rays have hammered 16 home runs in their first 8 postseason games. That ties the record for the most homers for a team making its postseason debut. The record is 27 homers in 17 postseason games.
The afternoon rain has given way to a breezy night. A strong wind is blowing to rightfield.
The Rays clubhouse staff has informed me champagne is on ice inside the Rays clubhouse. The championship t-shirts and hats are also ready.
The Rays are poised to party.
