The first of many honors came in for the Rays.

   Evan Longoria was named the Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year.

   It is not a major surprise because Longoria hit .272 with 27 homers and 85 RBI.  Longoria also had a key hit in the All-Star game at Yankee Stadium.  And Longoria has been even more impressive in postseason with 6 homer sna d11 RBI.

   Longoria is also a favorite for the Baseball Writers' Rookie of the Year, awarded after the World Series.

   Joe Maddon appears to be the lock for Manager of the Year honors.
