Rays Ready to Rumble

Joe Maddon has juggled his lineup for Game 1 of the World Series.

Willy Aybar will be the DH and hit 6th.

Ben Zobrist will get the start in rightfield and bat 8th.

Once again, the Rauys are facing a tough lefthander.  Cole Hamels, 3-0 in the National League playoffs, is looking for a third straight win in series openers.  I spoke with ESPN's Steve Phillips during batting practice and he said the Rays must be patient against Hamels.  He says Hamels will throw a ton of changeups in fastball counts.

Some oither interesting notes...the Game 1 winner has gone on to win the World Series in 17 of the last 20 World Championships.  That includes 10 of the last 11.  Considering the Rays are facing the Phillies best pitcher tonight, pulling off a win in Game 1 would be massive.

Also, the team that has owned homefield advantage has won 18 of the last 22 World Series.  Remember, Scott Kazmir was the winning pitcher for the American League in the All-star game.  That opened the door for the Rays homefield advantage.

Off the subject but, I am in the military and performed the flag display during the opening ceremony of both the ALCS and WS.  As much as I love being able to represent our Great Country, I am a little confused as to why they would not allow us to attend the games.  This was my 2nd year of holding the flag so it's not like I only showed up for the WS.  I can understand the fact of not being able to offer up the number of seats to accomodate 90 people, but I also know that there are 3 bars in the stadium and also plenty of standing room.  When we were done with the flag ceremony, it was almost as if they had said "thank you...now please remove your wrist bands and have a nice nite"?  When we removed the flag from the stadium, I was watched like a hawk while I retrieved my bag from inside the stadium.  Yes, they offered us tickets to opening day of next year....Oh wait, we will more than likely be doing the flag ceremony for that game as well (as we have for the past 2yrs) but more importantly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch my favorite team at home during a World Series!!  I'm not trying to cause a big stink but at the same time I feel they could have said "unfortunately we aren't able to provide seats for you but please feel free to hang around the stadium during the game".  That's all we would have wanted, experiencing America's Game on the World Stage, and say that we were there!

However, I will still be there when called upon to honor our Nation's Colors and I will always love the Rays...but I may think a little differently on the people that handle their organization.

Sincerely
An upset fan left out from a Big Game!!!!
