The Rays had survived a 90-minute rain delay.

   The Rays had survived a wild crowd that hoped to make the most of the first World Series game at Citizens Bank Park.

   The Rays even survived back-to-back homers from Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.

   But the Rays could not survive a little nubbler in the 9th inning.

   The Phillies take Game 3 of the World Series 5-4.  And the Phillies take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7.

   After tying the game late, the Rays had trouble with a hit batsman, an error, two intentional walks and a 5-person infield alignment.

   That's when Grant Balfour gave up what appeared to be an innocent roller that the Phillies turned into the gamewinner.

   Andy Sonnanstine will try to even the Series tomorrow night.
