In this case, "rainy days and Mondays" always get Philly fans down.
You should have heard the unhappiness among Philadelphia fans as MLB suspended Game 5 of the World Series. As they left Citizens Bank Park, they were screaming their displeasure. They were unhappy with the way baseball suspended play. They were unhappy with the decision to play in the rain. Of course, they didn't mention they were unhappy that Game 3 was played in extremely wet conditions. Could that be because they won Game 3??
But any swing in momentum is a "sobering" thought to Philadelphia fans...and there's not much that could "sober" these people up. If the Rays win the suspended Game 5, control of the Series returns to the Rays even though they would still trail 3-2 in this best-of-7.
And let's not forget that Carlos Pena and Evan Longoria are showing signs of busting out of their slumps. If the Rays could ever rediscover their patience at the plate, who knows what they could do offensively?
Baseball will try to get the rest of the suspended game in later tonight. Good luck..the forecast is worse Tuesday than it ever was Monday night.
Bottom line, Mother Nature and Carlos Pena have given the Rays life. And if there is a team that can take make the most of any break this season, it is the Tampa Bay Rays.
Just as the Boston Red Sox.
