We are at another season's crossroads.  Monday night's game vs. Carolina is for the NFC Division lead.  Why not?  It was like that last season, and 2005.  Three of the past four years the division title came down to these two teams, mano a mano.

       For those that think Monte Kiffin's possible, or should we say likely departure to Tennessee at season's end was a distraction this week, think again.  If nothing else, it will prove to be a motivator, for the young and vets alike.  I can assure you this defense, in some way, has recommitted itself to finishing this season. 

      The question this week is -  Even with that recommittment, can this defense put up a 'home" like performance on the road.  Last time these two teams met, Jake Delhomme was intercepted three times, and Carolina was blown out at Raymond James Stadium.  Not likely to happen again.  If it does, that will be signal #2 this team is ready to go deep in the playoffs.  Signal #1, emergence of one of the best special teams units in the league.

       Carolina is 6 and oh at home, like the Bucs.  The Panthers offense averages 28 points a game at home.  Not good against a Bucs team that doesn't score that many points unless the defense or special teams chips in. 

       The boys in Vegas have this one in Carolina's favor by three.  Your typical line for this matchup.  Tampa Bay is looking for that "quick start."  They better get one.  If they pull a KC or Detroit "opening" act, they will lose this game.

       Last week, if you recall, we spelled out Matt Bryant as the man who would make the difference vs. NO.  He did.  On Monday night, it will not be Bryant, but an offense that must play error free football.  Even one turnover will cost them the game. 

       That may be too much to ask for against this Caroline team at home.  In the hopes that the Bucs prove me wrong,  I am going with.......
