The Buccaneers may have to enter their latest "game of the year", without quarterback Jeff Garcia. Garcia is nursing a calf injury.
Here's the latest from Jon Gruden's Friday briefing.
(On injured players)
"Jovan Haye and Chris Hovan participated today. We're going to list them limited and questionable for the game. Sean Mahan, limited participation, questionable. [Michael] Clayton's full-go, ready to go. Jeff [Garcia] was limited. Brian Griese was practicing today. And Jeremy Zuttah was the one guy who did not practice and he'll be questionable for the game. All those guys’ status, we'll list them as questionable for the game."
(On a QB playing without practice reps)
"Well, you know me, it's tough sledding. It's a hard league. The guy's a veteran player. We never like to see a guy not practice, particularly at that position, but he's an experienced guy. He did take some reps yesterday and the day before, so he has participated to a degree. This is just a tough situation right now, but we're hopeful he can play."
(On if Garcia can miss that much practice and still be sharp)
"Well, around the league it happens. That's league-wide – guys do miss practice at the quarterback position, and sometimes it reflects in their performance, sometimes guys play better. Sometimes they get an extra day to heal or whatnot. All I can say is he's questionable for the game. We're optimistic. We did get Luke [McCown] and Brian [Griese] some reps today and if we have to go that direction, we will."
(On who would start if Jeff can't play)
"We have a lot of ways we can go. We even have Wildcat formations that we're looking at. Jeff's our starter and I'll leave it at that, and if we have to make an adjustment we will."
(On if Brian Griese was full-go)
"In my opinion he was full-go. He looked sharp today and I'm really encouraged to have him back. He's a good quarterback and Luke McCown's a player too. We're hoping Jeff's ready to go, and I'll be optimistic on that."
(On how McCown has looked)
"He looked pretty good. I thought he did some good things. Like I said, they're good quarterbacks. He stepped up last year at this time in a big game and played extremely well for us down in New Orleans. The bottom line is we'll be there, we'll be at the site Sunday and we'll have a quarterback."
