Bucs Head Coach Jon Gruden's comments Friday on injured players

HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN

(on injured players)
"We had some guys return to practice: Derrick [Brooks] and Gaines [Adams] and Stylez White."

(on Derrick Brooks' status)
"I believe he'll go. Again, we'll get to the stadium and make sure everything is accurate but it does appear that our captain will be back and it's a credit to him."

(on Jeff Garcia)
"He looked better. He looked better."

(on why the team is undefeated at home)
"We've played pretty good all year, really. We haven't really played poorly on the road. We haven't played well enough to win – or coach well enough to win, I should say – to win on the road. We lost in the closing seconds, a couple times. We were right down there at the end. We lost in overtime to a good football team. We were tied in the fourth quarter at Carolina. We've got a good football team. We've got to get some guys well and we're excited to play the Chargers. I know they're excited to play. They're a good team, they have great personnel and they're hot right now."

(on if it's easier to close out close games at home)
"I think everybody loves to play at home. Everybody's familiar with the surroundings and we've got a loyal, very devoted fan base and we want to play well for them. We're anxious to be at home. We've been on the road the last couple weeks and I know our guys are eager to play at home."

(on if it's unrealistic to expect backups to play better than starters when there are injuries)
“They made the team because we feel like they have the ability to play at this level. I'm really proud of our team in that regard and hopefully some guys that have been nicked up this week can return to full health and play their best football on Sunday."

(on if Chris Hovan saw the benefit of sitting out a game)
"I think so. Sometimes – you guys know this – sometimes two days make a big difference in terms of playing availability. You're not going to find too many guys tougher than him. He looks much better. Jovan Haye looks much better. And I thought Gaines and Stylez moved around pretty good today."

(on if he had ever met Sammy Baugh)
"Yes, I have. I can't say I know him personally but I did have an opportunity to meet him and be in his presence twice. If you know anything about football, you know he was one heck of a player and one tough guy, and a funny guy and a fun guy to be around. God bless him."

(on Philip Rivers)
"He's good, he's really good. I don't think he made the Pro Bowl but he leads the NFL in passing efficiency. He brings his team from behind dramatically. He's got a full complement of receivers, tight ends and backs that he goes to. He's a great competitor. He's a super player, no question."

(on being 9-5 with a chance to win two home games and make the playoffs)
"I'm excited about that. As I said, we're at 9-5 and that's hard to do in pro football. We've just got to get over the two losses, which I think we have. We've got to get some guys back that have helped us get to this point. If we don't, we don't, but we're excited to play. I know our guys are excited and they had one of their better practices yesterday."
