Lakeland Dreadnaughts beaten in Class 5-A title game 56-7.

If St. Thomas Aquinas isn't the mythical #1 in high school football in this country, I sure would like to see the one that is.  You swear the Pirates had a bunch of young college players in there, young men, playing with the boys.  To make their showing more stunning, it was done against Lakeland.  To add insult to injury, they reverted to a continuous clock in the 4th quarter.  I don't think the Lakeland faithful or Coach Bill Castle will get over this loss quickly.

I will say this:  Don't be too down.  St. Thomas Aquinas was unbeateable this year.  Only one team scored on them more than once in a game, and that was a team up in Ohio.  I have a feeling, with all the district changes forthcoming, and changes in classifcations for schools, we are going to see the Catholic schools become more dominant again, especially down Miami way..  After all, they can and do recruit, and successfully I might add.

Year in and year out, Lakeland has posted excellent football teams.  They have six state championships to their credit.....St. Thomas Aquinas has only five.  You've got them there, Dreadnaughts!  What I am looking forward to is Plant entering Class 5-A.  Hello Lakeland!

By the way, Plant plays for the Class 4-A title today against Tallahassee Lincoln.
