Bucs a bust in season finale

I consider myself to be a patient man.  I don't throw what I'm about to throw out right now without serious thought.  So here we go.  It's time the Glazer's give serious consideration to a coaching change.  What we saw Sunday againt Oakland was simply ridiculous.  The culmination of four straight losses, but the finale against the crappie Raiders rang the bell for me.

It was obvious the defense left the building four weeks ago with Monte's announcement he was headed up north.  And it's become obvious the offense's inconsistencies directly reflect on the head coach.

My guess is, with Gruden already naming Raheem Morris to take over Monte, any coaching change up top is unlikely.  What happened to this team this season showed it's age, and it's lack of depth.  No question, that is a direct reflection on the GM and HC.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Sunday's loss was the lack of inspiration on the part of the players.  The fact they had a "Philly-Dallas" viewing party scheduled after the game makes me think they had this game in the bag.

A number of hard decisions will have to be made over at One Buc.  Losing to Oakland, at home, was unacceptable.  In some NFL cities, a loss like this one would push the eject button for the reigning HC.  We now wait and see what the Glazer's will do.

You know Tom, there are so many of the local sports hacks that are ready to talk down to local football fans. They are always ready to tell us how little we know and how stupid we are.  Well here is what I do know.  The Bucs have been 45-53 over the past 5 seasons.

I won't give the Gruden lovers ammo by diminishing the Super Bowl when.  But I am looking at the past five seasons. Just because you bought me lunch 6 years ago doesn't help my hunger today.  The Bucs and been to the playoffs twice since the Super Bowl win.

I was under the impression that the Glazers wanted to move the team in a direction that would get us over the hump.  Well since the wonderful Super Bowl win only 2 playoff appearances.  That seems like that can't be the direction the Glazers were talking about.

The coach that couldn't "get it done" went 82-25 and won a Super Bowl of his own.  I think we have all had enough of Gruden.  Thanks for the memories.

The Bucs were never going to go to the Superbowl anyway.  They are home and they would not generate enough money to the area.  Maybe next year when the Superbowl isn't in Tampa.  Good luck guys next year.  Go Bucs!

Well, I think Tom is right.  It's time for a change.  Gruden has proved to us time and time again that he can't get the job done.  I think some of the players are unresponsive to Gruden and his play calling is just so predictable.  It's actually boring to watch the Bucs.  You pretty much know what Gruden is going to call.   I never thought he was that good of a coach, anyhow.  He didn't really win the Superbowl.  The team was pretty much already in place.  Gruden usually plays the guys he likes.  It's a personality thing with him and that affects the whole team.  I say cut the ties with Gruden and make some changes on the field.
I really like Brooks and Barber, but they're old.  We need some younger guys in those positions.  Good luck Bucs !

Tom...Tom...Tom...

Isn't this the same Tom who criticized Bucs fans that responded to an Action News poll at the end of last season that asked whether or not Gruden should have his contract extended. If I recall correctly something like over 90% of the fans that responded to that poll indicated that they DID NOT want Gruden's contract extened. Let's see...if I remember correctly, you could not believe the percentage of fans that did not want Gruden and you made an "on-air" reference  to them being something along the lines of "stupid" (although those weren't the exact words) for not wanting Gruden back. Isn't it funny how the "worm has turned."

Jim Fitzman,
You make a good point.  I did believe Gruden deserved a contract extension back then because I thought he did a great job of keeping that team together.  I thought, at that time, it was one of the most cohesive teams I've ever seen, much like the Rays were this year.
But Jim, that was then and this is now.  Four straight loses, and someone has to pay the price.  Is it the owners , who were 20-some M under the cap this year.  Or is it the GM for not sticking the team with ample depth.  Or is it the head coach's fault,  One of those three, or combination thereof has to pay for this.  By the way Jim, when the team was 9 and 3, my guess is you were thinking, maybe Korun was on to something when he said exactly what you mentioned below.  So did I, and then came the December disaster.
Futhermore, it was a clear indication that when Morris was named D-Coordinator, the brass felt that Monte's announcement to leave threw the defense out of whack.  Heads will roll on that side of the football, I assure you.  Now that Rod Marinelli is available, I would ask him back, NOW.  I would ask Joe Barry back now, but he will never come back.  Same may be true for Rod.  But the Glazers better get on the ball.  NOW!
