Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Unfortunate for both parties involved. I understand both views being expressed here. It is obvious what the deputy could have done to actually help this woman. She was breaking the law and the officers training kicked in. When she tried to explain her situation the officers training/police procedure kicked in. When she decided to leave the officer his bad judgement/attitude and training kicked in. What you see in the video is police training. What should be under scrutiny at all times is police recruitment, training and policy. Compassion should be a major part of police training but often when you are a cop, you don't deal with alot of compassionate people. It's hard to say if the officer was flawed or his training... The female driver did deserve the benefit of the doubt. I doubt the officer hears an excuse in a hospital parking lot that a loved one is dying as usual excuse to get out of a ticket..

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

He should be FIRED and removed from the police force permanently.  It's scary to think someone like this is supposed to be protecting us.  I was in a similar situation - on the way to see my dad having a heart attack.  Fortunately wasn't pulled over - but I wouldn't have been half as coherent as she was.  This cop was a TOTAL JERK.    FIRE HIM - before he really hurts someone.  What if her father had died?  That cop is a scumbag and too full of himself like too many cops are nowadays.

Re: I GOT IT!!! His supervisors NUMBER.... He's an arrogant piece of crap, too!!!!

you realize that you can get arrested for this kind of thing?  I mean your advocating people to cause physical harm to a law enforcement officer....

I saw the tape I heard him ask her if her father was under doctors care and she said she didnt know and that she didnt know if he was there... reasonable to assume she was lying about her dad she may have only happened to have pulled in there we dont know where she was intialy picked up for speeding could have been quite a bit away the prolonged chase could have made the officer start to think about a fleeing suspect with a flimsy story

you realize unless im mistaken this happened at USF that whole area is a more than jsut a university its also a teaching hospital lots of things for the officer to consider in a breif time frame...while he is mulling it over and procedding with his lawful stop she FLEES at a fairly high speed for a parking lot 5mph posted vs 20~30?

shes is told to get out ofthe car and she refuses (resists arrest) the car continues to move (endangerouing the officer) he tells her to put her hands behinde her back she doesnt he has to forceibly do it (lawful) she imho falls on the trunk more than she is slamed still not real force there and shes taken away.

its obvious to me the whole time the officer belives her story is just that a story thus there is no malice or mens rea of a crime.

this was public knowledge all that time ago it was only brought forward by this one news station for a slow night.  I cant belive the people here advocating for physical harm to a officer or termination over somthing at worse is a judgement error by the officer.

keep in mind officers cant just decide oh i made a lawful stop  and ill follow her into a hospital now to see if she realy has a father here

he stopped her he had to decide to give her a ticket or not since she gave a non creditble story he chose to give her one.  IF she had only waited she would have been on her way in 10 mins

notice we never find out if he realy was at that particular hospital her silinece and refusal to talk about it speaks volumes to me

Re: I GOT IT!!! His supervisors NUMBER.... He's an arrogant piece of crap, too!!!!

Maybe Officer 'coward' can arrest me himself.

YES! I advocate TAKING cops off the job at ALL costs!
    Whatever it takes......

That's right, he abused someone's civil rights and just RIPPED her out of the car. Being liberal isn't your fault, reference your USF statement -- but if a cop does this, YES, beat his ass!

    How about THAT??????

Re: I agree 1000% as well!!!

Another cop... no doubt. Shamus: It's unfortunate things like this haven't happened to you. Perhaps, you, too, need a good ol' fashioned ass-whooping ~ You'd see things differently, especially if I did it to you! What a jerk you are, siting 'police codes' -- um, everyone knows she was speeding. That's not the issue! Everyone speeds; every day. Since when is it chic to rought up citizens and pull them out of cars like that, and a WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This guy would get his ass kicked in Texas if he tried that. I wish he would!

Record that and send it to your local Nazi police station!

You must be taking a 'rent a cop' class at ITT or something because you sound like a complete idiot!
You really do ~ Perhaps, um, you just don't know any better and maybe should stop watching
    AmeriKan Idol ~

A nation of idiots I live in...
Where are the smart-people and leaders anymore????

    Amazing.
    Just amazing.

Now go and record this and send it to the cops that play computer games instead of talking to
concerned citizens and earning their pay.

Yeah, this guy needs some wal-to-wall counseling... No doubt.
Now, get some sleep, Shamus, 9th grade is pretty touch and you have
to be quick so they don't throw you in the trash bin again!!!

    Amazing.
Unbelievable I have to share the road with these moronic TWITS.

THIS COP IS BAD. WILL BE BAD!!!!!!!!!
    And needs to be removed!
Period! and badge TAKEN AWAY forever.

How could it even be a choice!
........ and if that were my mother, well, let's just say, he's very, very lucky
in that sense and that sense ONLY.

What a *** of man doing that to a woman who was totally panicked and could
have had a heart-attack herself. I hope she has brothers... I REALLY do.
Because I KNOW WHAT I would do. YOU BET!!!!!

Re: I agree 1000% as well!!!

I am sad to hear you are from Texas what an embarrassment you are for them. This woman wasn’t abused all that happened to her she brought onto herself the only real victim here is the poor officer who’s having to suffer comments from individuals with your mindset

As to myself I never will have to worry about a incident like this happing to me, after all I would carefully explain to the officer my reasons and if they chose not to believe them I would sit calmly take my ticket and go about my lawful business and contest it latter as any good American should.

You have to remember she was picked up for speeding long before she got to the parkinglot  actualy i dont even think she was in it at the intial stop she was on a USF access road that leads into either the campus Libary area or the hospital.  Been some time since i was there (Alumni)  If hse had been a bit more forthcomming in her story she likly would have gotten a pass her failure to beable to answer the intal questions gave the officer doubt and her fleeing the stop didnt help matters at all.

If the officer had not made his comment at the time of arrest i doubt he would have even gotten the 5 days.

Re: I agree 1000% as well!!!

    Not sad....

It's disgusting that with all the sensitivity training they take and all that is known and recorded, they still are flaming idiots and treat the very people that pay them with no respect. Yeah, this woman was a real threat! -- There are GOOD cops, rare, but there are. More and more you're hearing and seeing this: New Orleans, LA, NY, major cities. And there you are (your dad's probably one of them and at the dinner table talks about the citizens he 'protects' with contempt).

Is sad, that you'd all but promote this kind of behavior... and maybe even tolerate this.

They have a place for people like you, it's called Russia -- Everyone does what they're told and tolerates the occassional beating, etc. - You should consider living there.

Until you have taken a bullet for your snot running nose self - and defended two women being beat up in a parking lot knowing the odds were against me -- and bounced around a little bit saving a total stranger; until you've LOST someone to abuse; until you've seen how cops talk in the lunch room and see how really macho and stupid they really are, you can't really talk about much.

And there you are, in your home, and not grasping the actual act of what happened, but the 'writing on the wall of what is happening' -- wars have been fought for much less.

You need to really see what's happening here.
COP abuses woman. COP's Nazi boss (I spoke with this idiot!!!) hangs up and is completely
showing no empathy or sympathy for that woman.. He was angry 'because they got caught'.
Still want to defent 'the man?!'

NEVER, ever, ever trust a cop ~ they're disgusting when they gather around the water-cooler
they have nothing but contempt for you and me (their employers, in reality) and do really
serve themselves. I submit, to you, case in point:
ONLY FIVE DAYS suspension!!!!! for something that if you did that work you'd not only
be arrested (maybe by that coward cop in Tampa) -- but fined, sued, etc. etc.

    He got five days.
..um, Shamu, or what ever it is you're called.
WE NEED to take the power back. And we are, it's just taking a little longer than
    we thought.

The tide is on the turn.

Respect me; I will respect you!
I didn't wake up this morning to flame a bunch of cops. But this one needs to go
down. No one, really, likes a cop. It's like taxes, you just deal with it.
    Fact!
If I do see one that has a 'half assed' decent attitude, I often buy their dinner or
breakfast -- but it's rare, that I find one that's decent.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Section 776.05, Florida Statutes, “Law enforcement officers; use of force in making an arrest.” - A law

enforcement officer, or any person whom he has summoned or directed to assist him, need not retreat or

desist from efforts to make a lawful arrest because of resistance or threatened resistance to the arrest. He

is justified in the use of any force:

For the purposes of this policy, the Use of Force will be examined from two perspectives; resistance and control. Both resistance and control can be in the form of verbal directives or physical action.

    a) Resistance is defined as actions that are directed from the subject toward the deputy and is manifested by the subject’s attempt to evade a deputy’s attempts of control. The amount and type of resistance will vary, based on a variety of factors.

    b) Control is the force a deputy uses to influence or neutralize the unlawful, physical actions of a subject that the deputy is attempting to control and/ or place under arrest. Generally, there are four times a deputy is justified in using physical control methods. They are:

    (1) To stop potentially dangerous and unlawful behavior;

    (2) To protect the deputy or another from injury or death;

    (3) To protect people from injuring themselves; and

. (4) In the process of effecting lawful arrest when the subject offers resistance

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

amf150, I can assume that you are in law enforcement, you see this is the whole problem here. perhaps you forgot that police are supposed to help in an emergency, if she had been making up the story she could have and should hve been charged later after it was confirmed weather or not she was telling the truth, however the benifit of the doubt should be given in any emergency situation. And no it would not be a different story had it been a man in the car other than he would likly have been extracted from the car at gunpoint. Truth is that police in this country are losing the respect of the comunity at an alarming rate because of situations just like this. Ill take all the flack that you or anybody else for that matter want to give me over this but the problem is that 80%+ of law enforcement (on a local level) have let the power go to their heads and have lost track of the reason that they became cops in the first place, and its a shame that the other 20% have to put up with the immaturity of the other 80, as its making all of them look like amature bar bouncers, and you Mr/Mrs "amf150" go watch another episode of cops, because this is a real life situation, not the crime drama heroism quest that the other 80% are on.
