Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

It did not appear that she was trying to run.  When you have a medical emergency you do not think right.  The officer should have used common since and followed her to the ER and confirm her story.  If she was lying, take her to jail then.  He abused his authority in this case.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

I think the officer should be beaten by everyone in her family   and I mean beaten with a ball bat  when he said as plain as day  ; now you won't get to see him  at all because your going to jail . This is the kind of people we have protecting us  ?, Were all in trouble . I think the police have watched to many crime shows on tv everyones is guilty because we say so your going to jail  . the officer is very very lucky it wasn't me he pulled out of that car , very lucky . If they don't fire him then we should take a hard look at who is calling the shots and clean house after all we the TAXPAYERS pay for their services do you think we should be treated this way on our dime , if i had an employee , which they are  , all of our employees , who treated a customer in this fashion  i would fire  him on the spot reguardless of his being a good officer , he didn't look very good to me  .  i cant express how angry I am about this my blood is boiling , I THINK THE OFFICER NEEDS A SERIOUS LIFE CHECK BECAUSE THAT WAS WRONG AND THE CHIEF WHO GAVE HIM A 5 DAY VACATION NEEDS TO REEVALUATE HIS DECISION MAKING SKILLS  . Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Did Deputy Stabins use excessive force? Absolutely NOT!  The woman was driving 30 mile over the posted speed limit.  She was putting other citizens in danger going 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.  Do you know how many bogus stories police officers get from people trying to get out of a ticket?  I would guess they get many. I’m sorry to hear about the woman father, but what if she would have hit a little kid going that fast?  This would be a different story.  This would also be a different story if it was a male driver.  Other than speeding, she pulled away from a traffic stop!  Come on people, you know that is wrong.  The Deputy was doing his job.  He did nothing wrong by taking a dangerous driver out of the vehicle.  The only thing excessive is the five day suspension without pay.  Also, for those who don’t know, the husband of the woman is connected to the mayor’s office.  That is why this is a BIG DEAL.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

What are you thinking amf150?!  I think you may actually be "Deputy" Stabins or a narrow-minded buddy of his.  If you thought your mother or father or child was laying dying in the emergency room, do you honesty think you would have been 100% rational?  There is absolutely no excuse for the so-called deputy not to have immediately checked out her story and then provided a courtesy escort into the ER.  How cruel and power hungry can you be!!!  I think this incident should cost that inhumane idiot his job.  That is no way to treat someone under extreme duress.  And in case you are unaware, the law does provide for discretion and compassion and it clearly should have been exercised here.  Also, there is no excuse for the forceful way he threw her up against the car, this is such an outrage!  Yet you are right about one thing - a man would have been treated differently - he probably would have been able to go into the ER to see if his father was dead or alive!!!!!  Oh, and if you are ever in a situation where one of your loved ones is in danger or dying you just remember not to exceed the speed limit while you are trying to get to him/her!!!!!

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Excessive force? Thats the understatement of the year!!! The lady is upset,  she claims her father just had a heart attack - oh and she just happens to be racing into the hospital parking lot too........hmmmmmmmm. All seems to add up to me.  I'm sorry, but it's hard for me to see this lady as any type of threat. Why slam her over the car? One thing obvious for sure; everyone in the law enforcement communtiy has skewed this poll. Thats the only way to explain these results, seeing is believing and the results of the poll are bologny!  Ask yourself, would you want your Mom thrown around like that? I think most of us would race to the hospital in a similiar situation. The situation did not warrant that type of force, it warranted a professional that should have been able to calculate and analyze the situation at hand. I am not sure the suspension was adequate. A calming voice, and one call to dispatch to verify the story would have been adequate. What a moron.

Yes, I'm sure cops have nothing better to do than try to skew a poll on a website

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

yes he absolutely did! no human compassion at all. this is becoming a big problem for authorities once you gave them power/ or a badge they  think they can do anything to anybody to a point where they get so freaking paranoid. he should be fired! and use this as a lesson to all. he will be a danger to society if he lose his temper again. i feel so bad to that poor woman.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

She should've observed the posted speed limit in the first place.  Laws allow emergency vehicles to exceed those limits.  I don't think in the law books... "Emergency vehicles, and anyone in a hurry."

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

okie, I do have a mother and if she was in the hopital you better believe I would do everything to get there as soon as possible.  EVERYTHING POSSIBLE WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW!  Pulling away from a police officer, that is CRAZY!  That wouldn't have even crossed my mind.  Remember, 30 miles over the speed limit!! Not 10, not 20, but 30!!!  Ask a Sunstar medic if they can go 30 miles over the speed limit for an emergency.  I will answer it for you, NO they can't.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Yes I think the officer did use excessive force. I think he handled this  situation terribly. What is he going to do next time he flies off the handle. He thought it was a bogus story from her, come on. I can see bogus if she was on the highway, but she was at the hospital, what more proof did he need. I would hate to be the next person he loses his temper over. I think he is a threat to society. Good officer. I think not. I don't believe they need to use that much force. There are times for some compassion. That was not called for. I hope he gets help before he hurts someone else.
