Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

amf150     This is not about rich or poor.   I would have been just as offended if she was driving a Yugo.
This is about the police seeing themselves as above the community and not part of the social contract.
The lady made some very bad decisions but this whole thing escalated because of a lack of compassion.

I would have had my patrol buddy accompany me and escort her to the ER quickly and verified her story there.

I would size things up quickly and tell her at the start:  "Ma'am, I can see you're very upset. We are going to take you to ER and check out your story.   You * will * be given a citation for speeding regardless and we are running your plates.   If you are not telling the truth you will be charged with false statement to a police officer and you will go to jail. "

Then go.  Quickly.   At that point, the system is fair.

Uh, it's called COMMON SENSE. Y'know, what the cops are SUPPOSED TO USE, and are hired to use in situations like this one. Why don't you join the cop farce... er... ah... force? Sounds like you're just stupid enough to fit right in. Idiot.

    KayS:
How was the officer to know if he was in iminent danger or not?  All of those officers who have been shot or ran down by someone fleeing from them knew as much as this guy.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Always great to get the 'real story'. Thanx for insightful news. Too bad you are full of it. The whole thing would never have even involved the driving away part if idiot boy rambo cop had just escorted the lady into the ER to check out her story. THAT would've been good judgement... common sense, but of course you don't understand that concept... nor did the idiot cop. This type of thing has to stop, or there will be big problems in the future. What does it matter if the lady is 'connected' or not? So what. It's people like you, missing the whole point of a situation, who would fit right in at the cop dept.

    amf150:

Wow, do I have some dirt on Mrs. Langston!  She is a very wealthy woman who's daddy is best friends with the old Hillsborough Sheriff.  Sheriff Henderson hand picked Sheriff Gee to replace him.  That is why all charges (reckless driving 30 miles over the limit and fleeing a traffic stop) against Mrs. Langston were dropped.  This entire situation was routine until she pulled away from that traffic stop. You have to see the entire video to understand that she didn’t go 100 yards and stop.  Mrs. Langston made 3 right had turns and was not slowing down.  As deputy Stabins was approaching the car she did not follow the demands to exit the vehicle and she was resisting and not putting the car in park.  Plus, the crazy lady reached for her purse!  The deputy has no idea why she would be reaching for her purse. Gun?  As you all have seen, when Mrs. Langston is forcibly removed from the vehicle she has her purse in her hand!  Why would she reach for her purse?  That just makes the deputy more concerned for his own safety!  Watch the non edited video and you will see how Ms. Langston made crucial errors in her judgment which lead to her being treated like a dirty criminal.

Ask yourself, if Mrs. Langston father was not in the hospital and she made up the story.  She was caught driving 30 miles over the limit and drove away from the traffic stop. This video would be on "America's most stupid drivers" and not all over the news as "excessive force"  One can't assume the deputy knows everything and as a DUI cop he hears every excuse. Everyone is saying, "why didn't he call the ER and find out if her father was there" just think if she would have called while waiting for her ticket (for speeding), she could have put the nurse on the phone with the deputy to prove she wasn't making up the story.  Instead she drove away.  Shame on her.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Hey idiot boy, we all know the facts here, but you're ignoring the biggest fact... the cop was/is/will always be an *** who has no biz being a cop. ANYWHERE.

    jayhof:

What is wrong with you people who believe this was excessive force?

For starters the lady was going nearly 2 times the speed limit.  What if she hit someone, or caused another accident?  I’m sorry my dads in the hospital I have the right to break laws.  Is that how it works?

Secondly after she was pulled over the 1st time the officer had absolutely no time to check anything because she drove off before he even got back to his car.  Now if I was an officer dealing with the scum of society on a daily basis would you believe a person who evades then runs from you?

What is wrong with you people?   He had every right to pull her from the car and pin her to the back of her car.  As you can see by the car moving forward she did not at any point listen to the officer when he got to her door the 2nd time.  She was not injured by the officer’s actions.

The lady absolutely refused to listen to the officers commands.  He had every right to use force to take control of the situation.  You know its what the police are supposed to do when someone is breaking the law.  It helps to protect others.  DUH!!!

This is ridiculous.  The officer was doing nothing but upholding the law and safety of those in the public.  Yet I bet this lady will sue the police department and the officer will loose his job over this.  What has our society come too when a police officer cannot do anything to uphold law and safety...

Where is it said that you have the right to run from an officer.  Last I checked when a officer turns his lights and sirens on you are supposed to stop and listen to the officers reasonable commands.  Thats why she was getting arrested.

Were you raised by wolves?? I , am not the mayor's anything, and I don't care if it was a man or a woman that this happened to. If that jerk could have took a break from stroking his ego for a moment, he could have seen that the woman was CLEARLY, and GENUINeLY FRANTIC !!! He should lose his badge....PERIOD!

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

I spent many years as a police reporter for a major newspaper, and many hours riding with cops and firefighters responding to calls. Anyone who has never worn the uniform or served in public safety has no idea what garbage these  public servants are forced to take from such hotheads and anarchists as I see in these posts. I admit I have many friends on police departments and I have reported on both the good ones and the bad ones. This guy was doing what he was supposed to. When she drove away from him after a traffic stop she immediately became a felon and subjected herself to forcible arrest.
The guy in Texas should try riding with a cop for an 8-hour shift in any major city. He'd stop being a rabble rouser in the first four hours.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Obviously, you do not know a thing about common sense and that is why you think what the woman did was excusable.  Considering the content of your postings, I would bet it's safe to say that you have a very narrow and simple mind and are very ingnorant of anything that really matters.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

KayS, why is it that you sound like a dirty cop, just like Dep. Stabins?    Or are you just the wife of a dirty cop?

Plain and simple, Dep. Stabins should be fired.  If nothing else, I hope the lawsuit costs Hillsborough County Several million dollars.

oldrick said, "The guy in Texas should try riding with a cop for an 8-hour shift in any major city. He'd stop being a rabble rouser in the first four hours."

This wasn't in Detroit or Compton.    This was in Hillsborough County , FL.    You know, the land of old people and hanging chads....   It didn't take a genius to realize she wasn't going to be a threat.

Re: Deputy Suspended for excessive force

Not in LE myself and I agree with all those saying that Dep. Stabins did nothing wrong.  I don't understand why he was suspended but at least his superiors did not fire him.  Ms. Langston needs to grow up and start taking responsibility for her own actions ... as a woman, that is.
