I can't wait for the amendment vote.  Why do we have to wait till January 29th.  If the governor promises he won't cut services why can't we believe him?  We did vote for him.   What ever happened to the mandatory cuts in our  property insurance?  I haven't seen a decrease.

PROPERTY TAXES COULD BE MORE WISELY INVESTED. HERE WE HAVE A LAVISH INTERSTATE POOL DURING A DRAUGHT, YET MANY HIGHLY TAXED NEIGHBORHOODS DO NOT HAVE COMPLETE SIDEWALKS, OR ANY BICYCLE TRAILS!

We are lied to by our elected officials! This is a tax increase!! Every home purchased for under $200,000.00 in the past and worth over $500,000.00 today gets a huge tax increase Example you purchased your home for $200,000.00 and at 2.2 % millage your tax is $4,400 per year. Now you know what you believe your home is worth in today's market we can use $500,000.00. This will now be your new Tax base. Subtract the super exemptions of $195,000.00  and you will be taxed at 2.2% of $305,000 or $6,710.00 your tax reduction has invcreased your property tax by around 50%.Great Bill. Everyone should do this math than run out get a copy of California's prop 13 and start petitions to get a max millage rate of 1% on what you paid for your house locked in forever. They did it in California and we are at least as smart as they are exempting our polititians.

CLEVER ANALYSIS.

I believe the majority of people want property taxes cut. I know I do. I am extremely worried though what will happen between now and January when the vote takes place. I think local governments will use a sizable amount of money, our money, to promote how bad this plan is and what services we'll lose. They are already starting to use scare tactics to make people believe that we're going to lose fireman, and police officers, etc. This is simply not true.

Before we cut any of those jobs, we should look at the city workers standing around the job site doing nothing. We  should do a realty check with fireman and police officers. We should find out why their pension fund has increased over 166%!

Most politicians are such liars it's disgusting. They will look in the eye and tell you they're not stealing from you while their hand is in the bottom of your pocket. That's how property taxes are right now.

Government is supposed to work for the people. We tell them what we need, what we can pay and they, our humble servants, are supposed to use those tools we give them. Somewhere along the line our government has become skewed. They demand tax after tax after tax to line their pockets and then just keep asking for more.

This has to stop. Voting for the super expemption is the first step in telling rich, fat politicians that we will not stand for it any longer.

good coverage. i think it will help all the others, if you post a chart showing all our taxes (sales, property, gasoline, etc) and what they are spent on. while working for a city gov't (st pete) i was alwas told that money was not available for something because it was funded in a different way.

I think perhaps the legislature could have done better.  But having done this much I will vote yes on l-29-08.  In the meantime, who do these people think they are kidding that are trying to say we will lose all of those services.  They have plenty of reserve and they are just making donkeys out of themselves in stating otherwise.  As far as the lobbyists are concerned, they can talk themselves blue and the only way they will affect me is to try to contain the contents of my stomach.  I have said for years lobbying should not be allowed.  Too much graft involved of many kinds.

You think real estate taxes are okay now? Let me guess, you've been in you're home since the 1960s and you taxes are about $200? Is that right?

It's obvious to me that this is just another boondoggle designed to distract us while the real money is siphoned out from under us.  If you vote for this, remember what I said when the police don't come, the fire dept. doesn't come and your school walls are crumbling.

Our biggest voice, For the People, will be ABC Action News, so I ask you to please, every time a community leader says they will have to cut police and fire service and also the old chestnut, "our children will suffer" PLEASE  ask them for a line item budget for their community. You will soon see where all of the FAT is hidden. No one that I know got a free ride with their pension, and that the way it should be for all city, county and state employees.
